Gettin’ Tipsy on: Pear Gin Fizz

Hey y’all! Happy November (can you believe that? Because I can’t).

So I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, I will shout it from the rooftop if need be but Pear is one of my FAVORITE holiday flavors.... Seriously there’s a reason it’s #1 on the 12 days of Christmas... its #1 because it’s the best.

This drink was fun to make, is pretty to look at, and tastes even better. The Pear Gin Fizz captures all the notes of the season: bright juniper from the gin, warm spices from star anise and cardamom, mellow pear... it’s very hard to beat. Plus the smoothness from the egg white elevates the drink to a new level. It is a bit more involved though requiring multiple steps so it’s not something you’ll want to keep whipping together for a party. Grab a shaker (and a friend) curl up by the fire and toast to a cozy and bright season ahead!

2 ounces gin 1 1/4 ounce fresh lemon juice 1 large egg white 3/4 ounce Spiced Pear Simple Syrup 1-2 ounces club soda

Nutmeg SPICED PEAR SIMPLE SYRUP 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 1 pear, cored and cut into pieces 3 star anise 2 cardamom pods

DIRECTIONS Start with the simple syrup: add water, sugar, pear, star anise, and cardamom pods to a small sauce pan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and stir until sugar is dissolved. Once it’s all mixed, let it simmer over low for about 5 minutes. Then remove from heat and allow to cool completely. You’ll want to be sure to strain out pear and spices so you don’t have pulp and bits in your cocktail. If you have any leftover you can store it in the fridge! You can also make this a day or two ahead of time.

Once you’ve got your simple syrup it’s time for the fun part- the actual cocktail!

Fill your shaker with ice and add the gin, lemon juice, egg white, and the pear simple syrup you made previously.  Shake thouroughly for 15 seconds or so. You’ll know it’s ready once the shaker becomes frosty! Strain liquid into a cocktail glass. Top with club soda, garnish egg froth with a few sprinkles of nutmeg, and serve.

Do you guys have some favorite pear concoctions or other favorite seasonal flavors?! Give me a shout, I’d love to hear them!
