Gettin’ Tipsy on: Halloween

October 25, 2017

Double double toil and trouble, fire burn and caldron bubble.... happy (almost) halloween my ghouly gypsies!!

Halloween has always been on of my favorite holidays. For one thing, I LOVE anything themed. Playing dress up was my favorite thing as a kid and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t still love it. Another reason I love Halloween is because it offers sooooo many fun directions to take your food and cocktails. Whether you’re gettin spooky with a few friends or throwing a monster mash for dozens, the below Halloween cocktails will be a treat for everyone!

Candy Corn Martini

This one is a crowd favorite because it’s SO bright and vibrant. However this candy corn martini is definitely for the sweet-tooths of the bunch.

The reason it’s so sweet with such a strong candy corn flavor is also what makes this cocktail cool and unique- it uses infused vodka! Infusing spirits is much easier than one might think. It can be tricky to get the flavor right and well balanced if you’re branching out on your own, but if you’re following a recipe it’s very easy! One important thing to note is that you need to do this a few days in advance so it’s ready in time to shake things up!

Candy Corn Vodka:
1 cup candy corn
1 cup vodka

In a 16 oz. jar, add the candy corn and vodka.
Shake and let sit for 1-2 days until the candy corn have all dissolved. Make sure you ocasionally shake the jar to mix in all th particles as they dissolve! Store at room temp until you’re ready to make all your martinis.

2.5 oz. Candy Corn Vodka (recipe above)
1/2 oz. pineapple juice
1/2 oz. ginger beer
3 oz. tonic water

Purple or black sugar

Dip your glass rim into corn syrup and then the colored sugar. Fill a shaker with ice and add in the infused candy corn vodka, pineapple juice and ginger beer. Shake and pour into chilled martini glasses. Top with tonic water and serve to all your guests deserving of a treat vs a trick!

Black(berry) Magic Plum Sangria

Everything’s a little spooky on All Hallows’ Eve right? Why should your wine be any different?!

This dark purple sangria almost appears black due to the deep fruits used to give it the hue and flavor.

I personally like using a dark red for this Sangria and my favorite is Apothic Dark Red Blend.

Apothic Dark integrates flavors of blueberry and blackberry with notes of coffee and dark chocolate for a rich and smooth flavor that matches the fruits in this Sangria.

If you like more classic sweet sangria this can be made with a sweet red for a similar look or a rosé wine. If you’re using rosé it won’t have the intense “Black” color but the fruit will be visible and it will have a great sweet berry flavor!

1 bottle Apothic Dark
2 cups  blackberries
4 black plums, sliced
¼ cup brandy
2 cups black grapes cut in half

You can also add a cup of club soda if you want more of a spritzer and less of a strong wine flavor profile.

Witches’ Brew

This one is another great one for Halloween due to its amazing slimy green color! It always reminds me of a witches caldron bubbling and boiling over. Witches’ Brew is a tart concoction which pairs great with the Candy Corn Martini so that there’s something for everyone!

1 oz Midori

1 oz Green Apple Vodka
2 oz sweet and sour mix
2 oz Sprite

1 oz fresh lemon juice

Add ice to a cocktail shaker and pour ingredients in. Cover and shake until chilled, then pour into glass and serve. Fun Trick: goblets like the one I used are super festive and extremely cheap at almost any Walmart, Target, Walgreens... you name it!

Vampire’s Kiss Shots

No party is complete without shots right?! These will sure get your guests blood pumping marking them a tasty treat for any passing vamp....

1 oz Bailey’s

1/2 oz vodka

Raspberries

Chocolate syrup

Add two-three raspberries in the bottom of a double shot class and muddle. Rim the glass with chocolate syrup (sounds messy I know, but it’s sooo delicious!) In a cocktail shaker mix and shake the Bailey’s and vodka, shake with ice and strain into shot glass.

I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s Halloween plans! May your costumes be clever and your drinks be strong.

Cheers my gypsies!
